http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yazidi

The tale of the Yazidis' origin found in the Black Book gives them a distinctive ancestry and expresses their feeling of difference from other races. Before the roles of the sexes were determined, Adam and Eve quarreled about which of them provided the creative element in the begetting of children. Each stored their seed in a jar which was then sealed. When Eve's was opened it was full of insects and other unpleasant creatures, but inside Adam's jar was a beautiful boy-child. This lovely child, known as son of Jar grew up to marry a houri and became the ancestor of the Yazidis. Therefore, the Yazidi are regarded as descending from Adam alone, while other humans are descendants of both Adam and Eve.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houri

Imam Suyuti is reported to have said, "each time we sleep with a houri we find her virgin. Besides, the penis of the Elected never softens. The erection is eternal; the sensation that you feel each time you make love is utterly delicious and out of this world and were you to experience it in this world you would faint. Each chosen one [ie Muslim] will marry seventy [sic] houris, besides the women he married on earth, and all will have appetising vaginas."[43]
In another place, Ibn Kathir emphasises the literal nature of sexual intercourse in Paradise by another Hadith:
"The Prophet was asked : 'Do we have sex in Paradise?' He answered: 'Yes, by him who holds my soul in his hand, and it will be done dahman, dahman (that is intercourse done with such shove and disturbance[44]). And when it is finished she will return pure and virgin again.'"[45]

-The use of the houri, then, reveals that Islamic motifs are used as a way to represent a sensuality that American society enjoys, but refuses to claim as its own.

As a sign of identification, "the right hand is placed, with the fingers spread out (perhaps to represent the tail of the peacock) on the left breast, just above the heart." Some members are said to keep live peacocks.

Melek Taus, "The Peacock Angel" , is the Yazidis' name for the central figure of their faith.

Two great bustard eggs were recently laid in Britain for the first time since Queen Victoria was a child[citation needed], but were unfertilized—probably owing to the still juvenile male population. The last bustard died out in Britain in about 1832, but the bird is being reintroduced through batches of chicks imported from Russia.[1]

a large archaeological site located in the Jazira region of northeastern Syria near the Iraqi border (Al Hasakah governorate). Excavation by a joint Syrian-American expedition (by the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago and the Syrian Department of Antiquities) since 1999 have shown that this site houses the remains of one of the world's oldest known cities, leading scholars to believe that cities in this part of the world emerged much earlier than previously thought.

The site, only eight kilometers west of the Syrian-Iraqi border, is one of the larger mounds in the Khabur River basin. The site is unusual in that it is not directly situated on a branch of the Khabur River,

There were also delicate versions of the cooking pots too small and brittle for use in a kitchen. At first she thought they might be decorations or playthings. But their prevalence on the site ruled this out.

Just as intriguing were a series of "eye idols" - simple figures with bulging eyes made from bone and similar to a group discovered in the 1930s in Iraq at a site where Sir Max Mallowan, the archeologist husband of Agatha Christie, once spent time on a dig. Archeologists believe the figures have a religious significance. One was found lying in a grave.

A range of ceramics, from Chalcolithic "casseroles" to wares as thin as the shell of an ostrich egg have also been recovered along with bone figurines called "eye idols," which may have been representations of people rather than gods.

Archaeology has uncovered as many as eleven princes belonging to the reign of Amenhotep II (Jacob). They are Webensenu, Siamun, Khaemwaset, Menkheper/Thutmose,a Amenhotep, Nedjem, Yuya, Aakheprure, Amenemipet, and Princes "A" and "B" from inscriptions at Giza.b In the Book of Genesis, eight sons of Jacob are born to him through his two wives Leah and Rachel. Four additional sons of Jacob are born to him through the "concubines" Bilhah and Zilpah, bringing the total number of princes to twelve.

Marduk was, therefore, a very important god. In the first millennium BCE, his name was considered so holy, that it was almost never pronounced; instead, people said and wrote Bêl, 'Lord'.

http://www.livius.org/aj-al/akitu/akitu.htm

The two gods who were in the center of the festival were Nabû and his father, the supreme god Marduk, who was in the first millenium BCE usually called 'Bêl', Lord, because his real name was considered too holy to be pronounced.

http://www.livius.org/es-ez/etemenanki/etemenanki.html

According to the Babylonian creation epic Enûma êliš the god Marduk defended the other gods against the diabolical monster Tiamat. After he had killed it, he brought order to the cosmos, built the Esagila, which was the center of the new world, and created mankind. The Etemenanki was next to the Esagila, and this means that the temple tower was erected at the center of the world, as the axis of the universe. Here, a straight line connected earth and heaven. This aspect of Babylonian cosmology is echoed in the Biblical story, where the builders say "let us build a tower whose top may reach unto heaven".

The Magians not only kill anything, except dogs and men, with their own hands but make a special point in doing so; ants, snakes, animals, birds - no matter what, they kill them indiscriminately. Well, it is an ancient custom, so let them keep it. [Herodotus, Histories 1.140;
